Free Introduction to Classical Fencing
at the Mandel Library
March 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th, 2019
6:45 - 7:45 pm
During this program, participants will be introduced to the most common weapons of the classical fencing era: foil, épée (dueling sword), sabre, and smallsword.
Each session will begin with a short lecture and demonstration of a particular weapon, followed by a brief Q&A session, after which participants will be taught the basics of fencing footwork.
Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions, during which they will be taught a progressive series of lessons on proper fencing posture and footwork.
During the last session, participants who have attended previous sessions will be taught how to properly hold and manipulate a sword, and will have the opportunity to engage in simple exercises and drills.
Admission is free.
